WES Application from Nepal: How to Apply for WES Credential Evaluation (2026)

WES application from Nepal, step by step with screenshots: required documents, sending TU and KU transcripts to WES, reference number and status.

Universities, employers and immigration officials in the USA and Canada often want your Nepali degree evaluated by World Education Services (WES), and a WES application is how you get that done. You open an account at wes.org, choose the country and purpose, add each qualification, pick the evaluation type, add the recipients and pay online. WES then gives you a WES reference number, and your university sends your official transcripts to WES quoting that number. For most Nepali students the hard part is getting transcripts out of TU or KU, so this guide spends extra time on that, and you can complete your WES evaluation from Nepal without paying an agent.

Prices in dollars and rupees are in our WES evaluation cost guide.

Before you start: which WES credential evaluation do you need?

Ask the organisation that wants the report. The usual choices:

You need it for Evaluation
Master's or PhD in the USA, licensing boards Usually Course-by-Course (it calculates a GPA)
Some undergraduate admissions, some employers Often Document-by-Document
Express Entry and other Canadian immigration ECA (Educational Credential Assessment)

You also pick WES ICAP or WES Basic. ICAP sends copies of your verified documents along with the report and keeps them for future reports, while Basic is the report alone (WES: benefits of ICAP). Many universities insist on ICAP. Do exactly what your university says, because a completed evaluation can't be cancelled or refunded.

WES required documents from Nepal

  • Your degree certificate (final or provisional): a clear scan that you upload to your WES account yourself.
  • Official transcripts, which your university sends to WES, electronically or in a sealed envelope. You can't upload these yourself.
  • Translations of anything not in English, word for word and done by a professional translator. WES won't accept translations made by applicants (WES: translation requirements).
  • Your passport, so the name and date of birth you enter match it exactly.
  • A card that can pay in US dollars (or Canadian dollars for an ECA).

Once you apply, your WES account shows the exact list for your qualification under Required Documents. Go by that list, because it's what your evaluation is checked against.

These screenshots come from a real application for the United States; Canadian applications look much the same. Because they were taken a while ago, the prices in them are out of date, so check current fees on WES's fee page. Personal details are blurred.

Step 1: Choose the country

On wes.org, start an application and choose where the report will be used: U.S., Canada or New Zealand.

Step 1: choose U.S., Canada or New Zealand

Step 2: Enter and verify your email

Use a personal email you check often, since everything from WES goes there. Enter the six-digit code WES sends you (look in spam too) and click Submit code.

Step 3: Create your WES account

Type your first and last name and date of birth exactly as they are on your passport. As a new applicant you'll most likely answer No to "Do you have a WES Reference Number?". Set a password and a security question and click Create Account. This email and password are your WES login from now on.

WES transcript: how to send it from Nepal

WES wants your university to send transcripts directly. Paper transcripts must arrive in the institution's own envelope, sealed with an official's seal, stamp or signature across the back flap, and WES rejects any envelope that has been opened. Send the sealed envelope yourself only if your university refuses to post it (WES Help: sealed envelope).

University How it sends to WES
Kathmandu University (KU) Make an online request for WES verification (certificate/document verification) and give your WES reference number. After reviewing it, KU sends electronic copies of your transcripts and degree certificate directly to WES. KU has a digital partnership with WES and sends no paper copies. A fee applies; questions to olf.exam@ku.edu.np (KU, checked 6 November 2026).
Tribhuvan University (TU) Transcripts come from the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Balkhu (Edusanjal). Ask for them in a sealed, stamped envelope for WES, or ask whether the office can send them to WES directly.
Pokhara, Purbanchal and other universities Ask the examination or records section how it sends documents to WES, and follow WES's sealed-envelope rule.

If you courier a sealed envelope yourself, put it, unopened, inside a courier envelope (DHL, FedEx and so on), and write your WES reference number and the WES address from your account on the outside.

Tips to avoid delays

  • Sort out your transcripts first. They take the longest from Nepal.
  • Keep your name identical on your passport, certificates and WES form.
  • Put your WES reference number on everything.
  • Get professional translations before you upload.
  • Never send originals. WES doesn't return documents.

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply for a WES evaluation from Nepal?
Open an account at wes.org, choose the USA or Canada and the purpose, add each degree, pick the evaluation type and package, add recipients and pay. Then upload your degree certificate and ask your university to send your official transcripts to WES with your WES reference number.
What are the WES required documents?
A copy of your degree certificate, which you upload, and official transcripts that your university sends to WES, electronically or in a sealed envelope, quoting your reference number. Anything not in English needs a professional translation. Your account lists the exact documents for your qualification.
How do I send my transcript to WES from Kathmandu University?
Make an online WES verification request at KU's Office of the Controller of Examinations and give your WES reference number. KU then sends electronic copies of your transcripts and degree certificate directly to WES; it doesn't send paper copies.
How do I send my Tribhuvan University transcript to WES?
Collect your transcripts from TU's Office of the Controller of Examinations at Balkhu in a sealed, stamped envelope, or ask whether the office can send them to WES directly. If you courier the sealed envelope yourself, never open it, and add your WES reference number.
What is a WES reference number?
The number WES gives you when you finish the online application. It ties every document to your file, so it has to be on every envelope and message you send: WES says it isn't responsible for documents that arrive without one (WES Help). Give it to your university when you request transcripts.
How do I log in to WES?
Go to wes.org and use the email address and password you created when you opened your WES account. Forgot the password? Reset it from the login page with the same email. Your WES login shows your reference number, required documents and status.
How do I check my WES application status?
Log in at wes.org and look at the tracker, with its Application, Documents and Evaluation stages, each turning green when done. The message beneath it says what WES is waiting for, and WES emails you as your evaluation progresses (WES: check your status).
How long does WES take?
Typically 2 weeks to verify your documents once they've all arrived, then 1 week for an ECA or Document-by-Document evaluation, or 2 weeks for Course-by-Course, longer if complex (WES processing times, checked 6 November 2026). Getting transcripts out of Nepal comes on top, so start early.
Can I send my transcripts to WES myself?
WES prefers your university to send them. If your university won't, you can send them yourself, but only in the university's sealed envelope, signed or stamped across the flap and never opened.
What if my university is not on the WES list?
WES doesn't publish a list of the institutions it evaluates. Start the application anyway, because the form usually flags institutions WES doesn't evaluate before you pay (WES Help). If evaluators later can't assess a credential, your account is updated to say so.
Can I cancel my WES application?
Yes, for a $56 processing fee. A completed evaluation can't be cancelled and its fees aren't refunded, so confirm which evaluation your university or IRCC wants before you pay. Upgrading from Basic to ICAP costs $53, and updating a completed evaluation $92: see WES evaluation cost.
