Passport size photo size in Nepal
A Nepali passport size (pp size) photo is 35 mm wide and 45 mm tall (3.5 × 4.5 cm). The Nepal Embassy in Australia, for example, asks for “35mm X 45mm sized, only 70% face coverage, high resolution borderless photos” with a white background, and says photos with a tika on the forehead are not accepted (Embassy of Nepal, Canberra).
| Photo | mm | cm | inches | pixels (300 dpi) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nepal passport size | 35 × 45 | 3.5 × 4.5 | 1.38 × 1.77 | 413 × 531 |
| 2 × 2 inch (US visa) | 51 × 51 | 5.1 × 5.1 | 2 × 2 | 600 × 600 |
| DV lottery (online entry) | – | – | – | 600 × 600, 240 kB or less |
Different offices and online forms can ask for other sizes or file limits. Always follow the size in the form or notice you are applying to: choose Custom size and enter it in mm, cm, inches or pixels, with a maximum file size in kB if the form has one.
How to make a passport size photo
- Take the photo against a plain white wall in even light, facing the camera, with space around your head and shoulders.
- Choose the photo above. The tool opens on Nepal passport size, 35 × 45 mm.
- Drag to move and pinch (or use Zoom) until your face fills the oval guide. Use Straighten if the photo is tilted.
- Download the photo for an online form, or the 4×6 print sheet to print.
Print passport photos on one 4×6 sheet
The print sheet puts 8 Nepal passport size photos (35 × 45 mm) on one 4 × 6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photo, with thin lines to cut along. Print it at a photo studio as a normal 4 × 6 print, or at home on 4 × 6 photo paper at 100% (actual size), not “fit to page”. The 2 × 2 inch size gives two photos per sheet, which is what a US visa interview asks for.
The saved files carry a 300 dpi setting, so Word and most printers print them at their real size.
UK passport photos: don't crop
For a UK passport, gov.uk says “Do not crop your photo” for online applications (the crop is done for you), and printed photos must not be “a cut down version of a larger picture”. Upload or print the original photo instead (GOV.UK: photos for passports).
Making a photo for the DV lottery? Use the DV lottery photo tool: 600 × 600 pixels, 240 kB or less.
