1. United States of America (USA)

Academic Excellence

One of the most extensive higher education systems in the world is offered by the USA. It provides a wide variety of academic programs to their students at all levels, ranging from Ivy League institutions to state universities, in almost all disciplines, along with cutting-edge research opportunities.

Scholarship Opportunities

The United States of America offers scholarships to international students, including those from Nepal. The U.S. has more scholarships than Canada offers because the number of universities there is huge, and the funding opportunities are also plentiful. Generous financial assistance is also given under programs like Fulbright, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, and the United World Colleges (UWC) Scholarship to very deserving candidates. Between the years 2022 and 2023, a good number of Nepalese students got enrolled in universities, namely Troy University, East Central University, South Dakota State University, University of Louisiana Monroe, and Texas Tech University. With the aim of making scholarships easily available, this university provides quite a good amount of scholarships, especially to international students. And the average tuition rate is about $13,000, which is really cheaper than in other countries.

In the USA, we need to give a short visa interview in order to get a student visa permit.

2. Australia

Academic Excellence

Australia is home to world-class universities that have high academic excellence and research programs. Some of the world-famous universities include the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, etc.

Scholarship Opportunities

Besides, Australian universities are known to extend a broad range of scholarships to many students worldwide, including those from Nepal. There are several big organizations in this context, such as the Australia Awards and Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships, which provide a good amount of financial support to well-qualified students continuing their higher studies in Australia. Most Nepali students apply to universities such as Monash University, Curtin University, and the University of Sydney because all of these universities offer a wide range of academic scholarships for applicants who hold a high CGPA and have scored high IELTS marks.

Although in the case of Australia, we do not need to give a visa interview, the financial documents need to be strong, and there should not be any gap in education history in order to get an Australian student visa permit.

3. Canada

Academic Excellence

Canada itself has a very good education system, with most of the universities staying ranked among some of the best institutions in the world. Institutions like the University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of British Columbia are reputed to have excellent standards of academics and scope for research. The main part of Canada is that after completing two years of study, according to the Canadian government’s rules, one can apply for a three-year work permit. This work permit duration gives an opportunity to search for jobs and get some experience.

Scholarship Opportunities

However, in comparison with the USA, Canada offers fewer scholarships. Few universities offer scholarships to students who are seeking admission to research programs. The number of universities in Canada is also few compared to the United States, and therefore the tuition fee is higher. This is also the reason why most Nepalese students go to public colleges that offer courses; comparatively, the cost factor is not so expensive. There are popular public colleges preferred by Nepalese students, like Seneca Polytechnic, George Brown, Fanshawe, Humber, etc.

Note: It’s important to note that in 2023, approximately 10 lakh students got Canadian student visa permits, which caused a housing crisis and increased living expenses. Studying in Canada in 2024 can be more expensive for Nepali students, which increases the average living costs of an individual and also increases the unemployment rate. So to deal with that problem, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a new rule on January 22, 2024, stating that only universities and public colleges will be given preference. Because there were many private institutions, they used to admit a huge number of students without ensuring housing, which made it difficult for the students to find a house and manage the expenses. Also, from 2024, not all colleges will be eligible to get PGWP after studying. But you do not need to be worried because the IRCC has not applied this new rule to all universities and colleges. The IRCC has compiled a list of universities and colleges that are eligible for the PGWP. From September 2024, only students who will study at the college or university listed by the IRCC can apply for PGWP. You can visit this link and check whether your designated institution is eligible for PGWP.

In the case of Canada, to get a student visa permit, we need strong financial documents and an SOP.

Conclusion

In conclusion, each of these top three countries—the USA, Canada, and Australia—offers unique advantages for Nepali students seeking to study abroad. Whether it’s generous scholarship opportunities or academic excellence, these countries provide a wealth of opportunities for personal and academic growth. So, why wait? Begin your international education adventure today and broaden your horizons in one of these fantastic destinations.
